Hide in Time by Anna Faversham

This book was sent to me by the author and I’m reviewing it at her request.
This is a time travel romance kind of book, but not quite like others I’ve read. Our main character is in the 21st century as a result of some sort of a time portal—that part wasn’t completely clear—but her trip here isn’t one way. She can go both ways, with some serious limitations. She desperately wants to right a wrong she left behind there and she wants to learn to enjoy her new life as well.

I found the book engaging, if a little choppy in parts. The beginning was rather detached and it took me many chapters to understand the big picture of the story, but by the end I mostly “got” it. I had some questions, one of which is: why in the world did Laura, our main character, choose the matchmaking business? Seems like a tough thing to get into when you’re new to the century. And there wasn’t quite enough background on Xandra (our main character’s close friend) for me to understand why Laura was so into her (or looking for someone like her)—it seemed like that relationship was not quite developed. And I never really liked Xandra either…hm.

Anyway, the dialogue was good and I liked our main character, Laura. I also liked the ending of the stories of all the main characters--very satisfying all around. It was a good first effort with just a few problems that were not too hard to overlook.

Bad language: none
